Dale Martin Hansen was born July 8, 1924 in Eagle Grove, Iowa, son of Magnus and Marie (Pedersen) Hansen. He left school at 14 years of age to work building beehives for a beekeeper in order to help support his family. This first sparked Dale’s love of machinery and woodworking.

Around 1943, he began working at John Deere as a fork truck driver where he met his future wife, Virginia, on a freight elevator. Dale spent 39 years at John Deere, retiring March 1st, 1983 as a line supervisor. He was most proud of the time he spent as a Leadman on the repair floor and several years as first shift supervisor in Department 55 engine test room. Dale married Virginia Towsley at the Little Brown Church in Nashua on June 14, 1945. She preceded him in death in 2010.

Dale lived and breathed John Deere and was said to have green blood in his veins. He loved working with his hands on machinery or with wood and he and Virginia would do crafts together following his retirement.

Dale died peacefully in his sleep at home in Muscatine, Iowa, on Sunday, January 10, 2016.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia; three brothers: Gerald Hansen and two in infancy; three sisters: Mabel Dodd, Lillie Munson Manahl, and Evelyn Amble.

Dale is survived by his two sons, Dr. Martin (Laurel) Hansen of Muscatine and Michael Hansen of Waterloo; and grandchildren: Jeremy Hansen and daughter Audrienne of Waterloo, Erik Hansen of Parkersburg, Kristen (Evan) Hackman and newborn son Liam of Waterloo, and Zach (Kristy) Barzee and sons Jack and Austin of Big Lake, MN.
