The Rite of Christian Burial for Ellen "Nellie" Dunphy of Livermore will be celebrated by the Rev. Leo Riesberg at 10:30 a.m. today (Thursday) in Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Livermore. Burial is in Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Paul McKibban, Rick McKenna, Danny McKenna, Lubon Hiszczynskyj, Steve Sawyer and Vince Gardner the casket bearers. The Wilson Funeral home of Livermore is in charge of arrangements.

Ellen Regina McKenna, daughter of John and Mary Lattin McKenna, was born Nov. 13, 1904 at Hardy, IA. She attended rural schools near Hardy until the family moved to Livermore. "Nellie" continued her education there and graduated from Livermore High School. She earned her teaching certificate at what is now the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls and did substitute teaching at Livermore a number of years.

Nellie was married to Richard E. "Dick" Dunphy Sept 12, 1936 at Livermore. They lived on a farm northeast of Livermore. Mr. Dunphy died in 1986 and Nellie moved into Livermore. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and Guild, the Livermore Community Club, Equality Club and the Humboldt County Welfare Board, where she was secretary for 20 years. She was a charter member of the Friends and Neighbors Club.

Ellen Dunphy died Monday Sept. 14, 1992 in St. Mary's Hospital at Rochester, MN. She is survived by one daughter, Mary Margaret Dunphy of Livermore. Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers: John, Edward, Thomas and Joseph McKenna and two sisters, Anne McKenna and Katharine McKenna.
