Ben Thompson Ill

Ben Thompson who had resided in Estherville since 1901 passed away at his home on West Lincoln street Monday [February 27, 1933] morning after an illness extending over several years. Mr. Thompson was born on July 9, 1857 in Boone county, Iowa. As a young man he spent a few years in Lisbon, Ill.

In 1885 he was married to Berthina Storhowe [Storhow]. They farmed a few years then moved to Des Moines where for seven years, Mr. Thompson was a coachman for Doctor Turner. Since 1904 Mr. and Mrs. Fred [Ben] Thompson have been members of the Estherville Lutheran church.

Surviving Mr. Thompson are his widow and three children, Mrs. Geo. Vagle of Sioux Falls, S.D., Bernie of Duluth, Minn., and Gladys, also five grandchildren. Two children died in infancy. There are also two brothers, Knut Thompson of Slater and Zach Thompson of Council Bluffs.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon at one o'clock from the Sternborg funeral chapel and at one-thirty from the Estherville Lutheran church. Rev. L. A. Mathre will officiate.

Obituary of Ben Thompson

Ben Thompson was born July 9th, 1857, in Boone County, Iowa. He grew to manhood in southern Story County, Iowa. As a young man he spent a few years around Lisbon, Ill. He was married to Berthina Storhowe in 1885. They farmed a few years and then lived for seven years in Des Moines where Mr. Thompson was employed as a coachman for a Doctor Turner. About 1901 they came to Estherville where they have made their home since. Since 1904 Mr. and Mrs. Thompson have been members of the Estherville Lutheran Church. Mr. Thompson has been in poor health for several years. A marked change for the worse came last week yet no one realized the end was so near. He died peacefully Monday morning at 8:40 o'clock. Besides his wife he is survived by three children, Mrs. George Vagle of Sioux Falls, S. Dak.; Bernie of Duluth, Minn., and Gladys. Two children died in infancy. There are also two brothers, Knut Thompson of Slater, Iowa, and Zach Thompson of Council Bluffs, Iowa. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at one o'clock from the Sternborg funeral home and at 1:30 from the Estherville Lutheran Church, Rev. L.A. Mathre officiating.
