15 November 1823 --- 25 November 1909

Mrs. Mary Currie, who came to Clinton Township in an early day, died Nov. 25 of pneumonia at the home of her son-in-law, Joseph Patton in Wright County, aged 86 years. The remains were brought to Odebolt for interment and funeral services were conducted Saturday in the Presbyterian Church by Rev. D.A. McLeod.

Mary Smith was born in 1823 in Argyleshire, Scotland, where in 1842 she was married to Duncan Currie. The family, with the exception of Neil, the eldest son, came to this country in 1872, locating in Clinton, Iowa. In 1876, Mr. and Mrs. Currie came to Clinton Township, this county, where Mr. Currie died in August, 1885. Since the demise of her husband the deceased had made her home with her children. Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Currie. Malcolm died some years ago near Schaller and Mrs. Mary Fleming of Crawford County passed away six weeks ago. Neil resides in Scotland, Mrs. Maggie Calhoun in Levey Township, Hector near Schaller, James near Salem, Oregon, John and Duncan in Clinton Township and Mrs. Betsey Patton in Wright County, Iowa.

Mrs. Currie was a bright and amiable old lady who was beloved by all who knew her. Her mental faculties and physical vigor were but slightly impaired by age, and had she escaped pneumonia she might have rounded out a century.
