Eliel Freeman died Jan. 28, age 79 years and 42 days. He had been quite feeble for some months and recently suffered severe attack of fever which resulted in death. Funeral today at Presbyterian Church, and remains temporarily interred in Garnett cemetery until they can be shipped to California. He was native of Pennsylvania and settled in Anderson county [Kansas] shortly after the war. He was born at Uniontown, Pennsylvania, Dec. 16, 1817, and at age 18 his parents moved to Douglas county, Illinois and resided several years. He married Mary A. Cates in 1848. In 1856 he moved to Wright county, Iowa and resided about ten years, then came to Anderson county in the summer of 1868. Eight children born to them, 7 sons and 1 daughter, all living except 1 son. At his bedside were sons Henry, George, and James.
