Gary L. Harty, age 83, of Belmond passed away Wednesday October 14, 2015 at his home in Belmond. Memorial services for Gary L. Harty will be held at 5:00 P.M. Sunday October 18, 2015 at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane South in Belmond. Rob Dugger will preside at the service. Inurnment will take place in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Military honors will be provided by the Belmond Honor Guard. Visitation for Gary L. Harty will be held from 3:00 - 5:00 P.M. on Sunday October 18, 2015 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Gary L. Harty's name to the family.

Gary Lee, son of Maynard and Geneva Olsen Harty, was born on May 21, 1932 in Dows. He attended school in Belmond. Gary enlisted into the United States Air Force on April 5, 1951. He was stationed in Louisiana and Las Vegas. Gary also served in Korea during the Korean Conflict Gary was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force on March 17, 1955. December 26, 1951, Gary was united into marriage with Mary Pederson. The couple was blessed with four children, Judy, Teresa, David, and June. After his military service, and a short stay in California the family made their home in Belmond.

Gary was a talented carpenter his entire life. He built many houses in Belmond and surrounding communities, from footings to finish, he did very fine appreciated work. Besides working for himself, Gary worked for Dorr Construction and Howard Jacobmeyer. Gary never really officially retired from his carpenter and also dearly enjoyed wood-working. Gary enjoyed gardening and fishing, especially ice fishing.

Gary is survived by four children, Judy Reeder, Teresa Platt, David Harty, June (Harvey) Tulp, seven grandchildren: Cori, Kerri, Eugene, Lowona, Heather, Daniel, Hadley, thirteen great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Maynard and Geneva, wife Mary, and sister Katherine (Kaye) Kratky-Mennenga.
