Merril Duane Hefty

September 7, 1934 --- October 14, 2015

Merril D. Hefty, 81, of West Bend, Iowa died Wednesday October 14, 2015 at the West Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Services will be held Saturday, 10:30 AM at Peace Lutheran Church, West Bend with burial to follow in the West Bend Cemetery. Visitation is from 4-7 PM Friday at the church. Harris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Merril Duane Hefty was born September 7, 1934 in Hardy, Iowa, the son of Henry and Mildred (Rummens) Hefty. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from the Vernon Consolidated High School near Renwick, Iowa. In 1954, Merril was united in marriage to Judy Harmon at Zion Lutheran Church, Luverne, Iowa. To this union five children were born. Merril and Judy farmed in the LuVerne area until 1962 when they moved to the Ottosen area to continue farming and raising livestock. In 2000, Merril and Judy moved to an acreage just outside of West Bend, IA.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Judy, children, Judy (Jim) Crawford of Emmetsburg, IA, Dave (Becky) Hefty of West Bend, IA, Bruce (Kim) Hefty of Bradgate, IA, Steven Hefty of West Bend, IA, and Janet (Tom) Hartman of West Bend, IA, 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, siblings, Betty Billings of Kansas City, MO, Alma Chatman of Las Vegas, NV, Ben (Kay) Hefty of LuVerne, IA, Eunice (Dennis) Albright of Albuquerque, NM and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mildred Hefty, a sister Lela Hefty and brothers Short, Bud and Gary Hefty.
