Burton Arthur Thompson, 99, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Burton was born April 3, 1916, in Colfax, N.D., to Thomas H. Thompson and Anna (Ohme) Thompson. He was united in marriage to Elsie Strietelmeier, of Eagle Grove, on June 29, 1938, and enjoyed 70-1/2 years of marriage. To this union, Burton and Elsie had three children, Marlene, Charles and Caroline.

Burton and Elsie lived in the Holmes-Clarion area for about 11 years and in 1949, bought a farm near Radcliffe, where Burton farmed until he retired in 1982. They then moved to Roland and, in July 2008, moved to Windsor Oaks Retirement Community in Ames, where Burton resided. Burton was a member of Salem Lutheran Church near Radcliffe for 66 years.

Burton is survived by his children, Charles (Tilda) Thompson, of Ames, and Caroline Swenson, of Story City; seven grandchildren, Natalie (Steve) Montross, of Winterset, Gerald Claude, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Kelvin Claude, of South Korea, Jennifer Swenson, of Story City, Michelle (Reid) Stephenson, of Ames, Kari (Jeremy) Erdman, of Driggs, Idaho, and Michael (Melissa) Thompson, of Omaha, Neb.; five great-grandchildren, Christina Claude, Brandon, Brittany and Stephanie Montross, and Megan Claude; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elsie; brothers, Tilbert, Kermit and Hiram Thompson, Maynard, Oscar and Alfred Toftee; one sister, Bertha Brink; one daughter, Marlene Claude; sons-in-law, Clayton Claude and Don Swenson; and one great-grandson Christopher Claude.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, at Salem Lutheran Church in rural Radcliffe. Memorials may be made to the Salem Lutheran Church Building or Salem Radio Funds.
