Robert E. “Bob” Oleson, 90, of Fort Dodge, passed away Monday, July 6, 2015, at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, July 9, 2015, at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Willer officiating. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery with military honors conducted by the VFW Post #1856 and the Iowa Army National Guard. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.

Robert is survived by two children, Mike (Bev) Oleson of Fort Dodge; and Barb (Kent) Buckton of Cumming, Iowa; four grandchildren, Michael (Amy) Oleson Jr., Erik Oleson and fiancé Jodi Hugeback, Katelyn Buckton and Nicholas Buckton and fiancé Biz Opie; his sister, Ruth Thompson, of Bode; as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two sisters, Helen Thompson and Margaret Thompson and three brothers-in-law, Thomas Thompson, Merle Thompson and Robert Thompson

Robert E. “Bob” Oleson, the son of Edwin and Mary (Julius) Oleson, was born August 5, 1924 in the rural Badger area. He attended Badger Township School. He farmed in the Badger area until entering the United States Army in 1946, serving in the Pacific Theatre. On June 5, 1949, he married Eileen Lohr in the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Fort Dodge. He farmed in the Badger and Vincent area for 40 years before moving to Fort Dodge in 1987. Robert and Eileen retired from farming in 1992. After retiring, Robert took up woodworking. He was an avid sportsman with a great interest in fishing. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Even after retiring, Bob was always interested in planting and harvesting of the crops. He enjoyed outdoor work, especially his gardening and yard work. His wife Eileen died September 13, 2006.

Robert served on the Vincent Elevator Co-op Board of Directors and was a long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church, serving on the Administrative Board, Commissions and ushering staff. He helped with many projects at the church. He was always available to give a helping hand when it was needed. He was a member of V.F.W. Post No. 1856. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Hospice of Fort Dodge.
