Funeral services for Lola Jacobs, 82, of Milford were held Monday, April 28, 1986 at the Union Memorial Church in Milford with the Rev. Leonard Root officiating. Interment was in the West Bend Cemetery at West Bend, Iowa. Lola died on April 23 in Salem, Ore. Soloist Wendell Williams sang "In the Garden" and "The Lord's Prayer" and was accompanied by Gerry Sternberg on the organ. Pallbearers were Ted Frederick, Lyn Johnson, Emil Richter, George Rohwer, Duane Taylor and Virgil Wahlman.

Lola Leota Jacobs was born to George and Minnie Peters at Ruthven, Iowa on Oct. 29, 1903. She attended school at Renwick, Iowa and then attended the Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Harvey E. Jacobs on Aug. 28, 1929 at Niagara Falls, New York, and to this marriage were born two daughters. Lola was a teacher in her early years beginning in a small country school near Renwick. After attending the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, she taught at West Bend and Eagle Grove, and later married Harvey Jacobs. After learning the mercantile business through Andrew Jensen of West Bend, Harvey and Lola opened their own general merchandise store in 1936 in Terril. In 1939 they opened the H. E. Jacob's and Company Store in Milford, retiring in March of 1977 after 41 years of working with the Milford area residents.

The past several years, Lola has enjoyed spending time in her new home and visiting her daughters' families in Denver, Colo, and Salem, Ore. She was a member of the Union Memorial Church, and Esther Circle. She was the director of the Board of Variety Supply Company at Clara City, Minn, for several years. Surviving her are her two daughters, JoAnn Zieringer of Denver, Colo, and Virginia Enfield of Salem, Ore.; six grandchildren - Mark Zieringer of Heidelberg, Germany, Christy Enfield Todd of Mill Creek, Wash.; Kathryn Harroun of Denver, Colo; Steven Enfield of Chicago, Ill.; Melanie Enfield of Eugene, Ore.; Nancy Enfield of Salem, Ore.; three sisters - Hazel Jensen of West Bend, Iowa; Iva Zinser of Eagle Grove and Ruth Bordeleau of Seattle, Wash. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey. The Turner Funeral Home in Milford was in charge of arrangements.
