Services for a Lake Park native, Carroll Judd Markwick, 62, of Storm Lake, who died Sunday, Nov. 5, were Monday afternoon, Nov. 8, at Donovan-Leyson Chapel, Spirit Lake, with burial at Lakeview Cemetery, Spirit Lake. Rev. B. J. Swede officiated. Music was by Robert Cosens and Sharon Parriott. Attendants were Gene Rasmussen, Kenneth Wahlen, Milo Pedersen, Robert Prunty, Larry Huntley and Dr. Gunnar Wikstrom. A Memorial service held Sunday evening, Nov. 7, was officiated by Dr. Richardson with Dave Van Sickle as vocalist and Joy Pitstick, as organist.
The only child of Frank and Adeline Markwick, he was born Sept. 1, 1914 in Lake Park, Ia. and graduated from Lake Park School. He worked in People's Cash Store several years, and then in the Council Oak Store in Ida Grove, Ia. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II serving three years and three months and was a store-keeper on a Destroyer. On Dec. 27, 1942 he was married to Blanche Eral in Ida Grove, Ia. They have one daughter, Lorna Jeanne and a son-in-law, David Stephenson who reside in Spirit Lake. His wife also survives.
After his return from service he worked as parts manager for Peterson Motors in Storm Lake and in Ford dealerships in Eagle Grove, Denison, and Spirit Lake. The past five years he has been parts manager for Ramussen-Ford in Storm Lake. He was a member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake and the United Commercial Travelers organization.
Survivors include his wife, Blanche; daughter, Lorna; and son-in-law David Stephenson.

Markwick Dies In Crash; Third Fatality in CityCarroll J. Markwick, 62, 908 Mae, died at the scene of a three car accident about 9:35 a.m. Friday in front of 1509 Lake. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m Sunday at Hughes-Nelson Funeral Home, with Rev. Clarence Richardson officiating. A memorial service will also be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Donovan Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Interment will be at Spirit Lake. Markwick is survived by his wife, Blanche, and a daughter, Lorna, Mrs. David Stephenson of Spirit Lake. He is the third traffic... Police said Markwick, parts manager at Rasmussen Ford-Mercury, was northbound on Lake, when a southbound car driven by Layne N Chase, 21, Truesdale, swerved into the northbound lane hitting the car head-on. Markwick was pronounced dead at the scene by Medical Examiner Dr. Jonathon Hruska. According to police, a pickup truck, which was not involved in the accident, was southbound on Lake and the driver was signaling to make a left turn into the driveway at Bill's Cycle Center. The pickup had stopped to wait for oncoming traffic from the south. A car driven by Janice M. Kringen, 38, rural Storm Lake, was also southbound behind the pickup and as her car was almost coming to a stop for the pickup, her car was hit from behind by the Chase car. The Chase vehicle then swerved into the northbound lane, hitting the car Markwick was driving. Chase was charged with failure to have control. Damage was estimated at $2,900.
