Ret. Lt. Colonel Robert W. Henely, Glendale, Ariz., formerly of Clarion, Iowa, died at his home on Monday, June 10, 2002, at the age of 79.
Survivors include his wife, Frances; two sons, James and Jon; one daughter, Nancy; three grandchildren; and one sister, Leila Lenning.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Helen and Doris; and two brothers, Randall and Arthur.

Robert (Bob) W. Henely was born at Clarion, Iowa, March 7, 1923, to Arthur and Madge Henely. He attended country school at Dayton Center, then high school in Eagle Grove, graduating in 1942. That fall he enrolled at Coe College, but enlisted in the United States Air Force when war was declared. He served in Italy. He was discharged in 1946. He married Frances Sill of Fort Dodge, Iowa. They made their home in Iowa City, Iowa, where he entered graduate school. He was recalled to the service in 1951 and retired in 1970. He served as Commander of the Munition Squad in Ghedi, Italy, and then as Commander of the Munition Maintenance Squad at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona. Private services were held.
