The Rev. Lars P. Erland of Eagle Grove, Iowa, died Friday, February 13, 1953, at the age of 82. He was born January 1, 1871 at Erland, near Stavanger, Norway, and came to this country in 1890. He attend ed Humboldt College in 1900, St. Olaf College. 1901-1904, Red Wing Seminary, 1904-1907, and United Church Seminary, St. Paul, 1909 - 1911. He was ordained to the Christian ministry In 1909. He served congregations at Hemar, Saskatchewan, 1909-1913; at Dakota City, Iowa, 1911-1913; at North Battleford, Saskatchewan, 1913-1914, at Eureka, Kansas, 1919-1923, and at Wessington Springs, South Dakota, 1923-1934. From 1914 to 1919 he served as emissary or evangelist with residence at Irvin, Iowa.

Rev. Erland married Karine Bjelland in 1907. She died in 1914. Two sisters, Kari and Malin and two brothers, Rasmus and Askil also preceded him in death. He is survived by his three children: Arnold of San Bernardino, Calif., Selvine (Sally) of Eagle Grove and Reuben of Eagle Grove. He is also survived by four grandchildren and by a sister, Ellen, in Norway.

Services were held at the Kastler Funeral Home at 1:30, Monday February 16, followed by church service at Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Rev. Kenneth R. Torvik, Pastor, in charge, Pastors of the Eagle Grove Circuit acted as pallbearers and participated in the service. Pallbearers were Rev. R. M. Jensen of Callender, Rev. B. F. Molstre of Eagle Grove. Rev. S. J. Thompson of Badger, Rev. Perry Sampson of Kanawha, Mr. Ola Aukland and Mr. Jonas Norem. Rev. S. J Thompson sang "Taenk Naar Engang", Mrs. Conger Whyte sang "Come Ye Disconsolate" and Rev. A. J. Tolo of Dows sang "I Know Of A Sleep In Jesus' Name." An old friend, the Rev. A. C. Itse of Irvin, Iowa brought greetings in person, and a greeting was read from Dr. V. T. Jordahl, President of the South Central District. Organist, Mrs. Kenneth Sandven. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
