Ruben C. Erland, 94, of Eagle Grove, died on Tuesday, December 6, 2005, at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home, in Eagle Grove. Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 9, 2005, 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Paul Stone, officiating. Survivors include his son, Michael Erland and wife Rita of Greeley, CO; daughter, Mary Derscheid and husband Doug of O'Neill, NE; four granddaughters: Pam Rodriquez and husband Phil, Tricia Adams and husband Jerry, Kim Koch and husband Doug and Kelly Derscheid; five great-grandchildren: Terri, Stephanie, Glen, Allen and Alex and one great-great grandson, Bradley. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Vera; brother, Arnold and a sister, Selvina Erland.

Ruben C. Erland was born August 30, 1911, in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada, the son of Lars P. and Carrie (Bjelland) Erland. He
was raised and educated in Wessington Springs, SD, where he graduated from high school. Ruben moved to Eagle Grove in 1933 and attended Eagle Grove Junior College. On July 20, 1941, Ruben was united in marriage with Vera Hazel Pohlmann at Eagle Grove, where the couple made their home. Ruben served in the United States Army during World War II. Ruben worked for the Maplewood Dairy in Eagle Grove delivering milk, as a mechanic at Dahlberg's Garage, as a railway express agent for the Milwaukee Railroad and in the soybean department at Boone Valley Coop for 22 years, retiring in 1973. He was a longtime member of the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served as a Deacon, trustee, usher and taught Sunday school. Memorials may be directed to the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove was in charge of the arrangements.
