November 17, 1900 --- January 6, 1985

Eliot Sylvestor Sevareid, the son of Elias and Caroline F. Naeseth Sevareid, was born on Nov. 17, 1900 at Story City. He grew up in Story City and graduated from the Story City High School in the Class of 1918. On June 8, 1927, he was united in marriage with Lura Alice Whyte at Goldfield, where the couple made their home. For several years, he was employed at the Charlson Clothing Stores in Story City, Goldfield and Dows, and later became a sales representative for the Stetson-Stevens Company for 35 years and traveled in Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota and Nebraska. He was an honorary member of the Iowa Men's Apparel Club of Des Moines. He retired in 1975.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the St. Petri Church in Story City. In 1955, he became a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield. He died at the Sevareid home in Goldfield on Sunday evening, Jan. 6, 1985 at the age of 84 years, 1 month and 19 days.

Surviving are his wife, Lura Whyte Sevareid of Goldfield; his daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Marlin Struckman, both of Portland, a sister and her husband, Gerda and Sanford L. Hill of Napa, Calif, and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Marie Bertha Dresher and an infant sister, Marie Constance; and two infant brothers Eric and Eliot Bertram.

Funeral services for Eliot Sevareid, age 84 of Goldfield, were held on Thurs., Jan. 10, 1985 at 11 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield. Rev. Victor Victoria officiated and burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield. Visitation was held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home on Wednesday.
