Louise Mathilda Hanson was born August 6, 1891, the daughter of Christian and Olianna Shefstad Hanson, at Rothsay, Minn. She was also educated at Rothsay, Minn. She was united in marriage to Eddie O. Kallem of Rothsay June 12, 1912. The couple moved to Montana in 1917, lived in Minnesota, and various towns in Iowa before settling in Eagle Grove in 1970. She moved to the Clarion Care Center in 1973. She was a member of Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. Louise Kallem died at the Clarion Care Center February 28, 1988 at the age of 96 years, six months, and 22 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Eddie; sons, Ernest, and Donald; brothers, Oscar, Willie, Herman, Carl and Eddi; sisters, Clara (infant); Clara Trosvig; Carrie Trosvig, Annie Hadler; Minnie Knowles and Olga Nelson. Louise is survived by four sons, James, Milaca, Minn.; Robert, Eagle Grove; Kenneth, Eagle Grove; and Floyd, Alden; six daughters, Vivian Jones, Goldfield; Mrs. Milford (Rose) Thompson, Goldfield; Mrs. Orval (Elsie) Minor, Marshalltown; Mrs. Wally (Dorothy) Cripps, Marshalltown; Mrs. William (Joyce) Champlin, Torrance, Calif.; and Jean Lee, Bellevue, Neb.; 37 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held March 2, at 1:30 p.m. at the Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove and burial was held in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. The Rev. Carlton Shaw officiated. Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
