Ronald E. Wood, 66, Renwick

Ron Wood, 66, of Renwick, died in hospice care at the VA Community Living Center in Des Moines on
August 30, 2015, of lung cancer. Ron was born April 8, 1949, in Ames, Iowa, to Maryetta McNeer
Wood and Robert E. Wood. He spent his early childhood in Des Moines. The family, which includes his brother, Mike, Omaha, Neb., and sister, Linda Wood Oettli of Denver, Colo., moved to Eagle Grove when Ron was 12 years old, and his parents opened Bob Wood Chevrolet. Ron graduated from high school in 1967. After a year at Iowa State University, he joined the Navy and served in the Vietnam theater on a sub-finder plane during that war. He loved cars, sports, and music. He was an accomplished guitarist and had a beautiful singing voice. Ron is survived by his wife, Mary Beth Ostlund-Wood; stepdaughter,
Caitlin Ostlund; his two sons by his first wife, Jorga Hill Erickson, Neil and Ryan Wood, both of Des Moines; and several grandchildren. He is also survived by former wife, Brenda Ferrell; and stepchildren, Josh, Lia, and Anna; as well as several step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Final arrangements are private at his request. He was much loved and is deeply missed.
