VAN ARSDALE, CLEVENGER, LAND, MCCORMICK

October 22, 1872 --- September 16, 1944

Geo. Thomas Van Arsdale, son of John and Sarah Van Arsdale, was born in Macoupin County, Illinois, October 22, 1872 and died at the age of 71 years, 11 months, 24 days. Mr. Van Arsdale made his home in Macoupin County until the year 1923. In 1898 he was united in marriage to Mary Lizzie Clevenger of Macoupin County.

To this union nine children, six sons and three daughters were born. Two, Opal (Mrs. Willard Land) and Mable Eileen have passed to their reward. Those remaining are: Paul, Baker, Oregon; Mrs. Albert McCormick, Clarion; Roy, Le Grand, Oregon; Claude, Hermiston, Oregon; Clair, U. S. Army; Kenneth, U. S. Army, overseas; Clyde Thomas, Hermlston, Oregon.

Mr. and Mrs. Van Arsdale left Macoupin County, Illinois in 1923 settling on a farm near Eagle Grove, Iowa where they made their home for a number of years. Later they moved to Eagle Grove which has been their home. While Mr. Van Arsdale has not been in the best of health for some time yet his death came as a shock to his friends and loved ones. About two weeks ago he left for a visit in the west and while he was with his son, Roy, the end came.

In 1908 he joined a Baptist church in Macoupin county and continued his membership with that church. For many years he was a member of the I.O.O.F.

Mr. Van Arsdale was a loving husband, a kind father and a good neighbor. He will be missed by all who knew him. Besides his loving wife and children he leaves to mourn his passing, 16 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Wilson's Chapel conducted by Rev. Harry Throckmorton. Music was furnished by Mrs. John Vike and Miss Mabeth Throckmorton, with Miss Betty Dramalls accompanist. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.
