Thomas Scott McCaulley was born on May 19, 1956, the son of Glen and Bette Watson McCaulley at Fort Dodge. At eight years of age, Tom was diagnosed with diabetes. He received his education in the Eagle Grove school system and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1974. He attended Brown Institute of Broadcasting, graduating in 1975, attended one year at Wayne State College, and graduated from the Commission of the Blind in Des Moines.
Tom was a proprietor of the State House cafeteria in Des Moines. In 1986 he was the recipient of a kidney and pancreas transplant. He was also recognized by the University of Iowa as the first transplant recipient to complete the 495 mile RAGBRAI bike ride across Iowa. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Eagle Grove.
Tom Scott McCaulley passed away at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines on Saturday, June 12. He had attained the age of 37 years, and 25 days. Survivors include his mother Bette McCaulley of Eagle Grove and his brother Mark McCaulley of Walnut Creek, Calif. Tom was preceded in death by his father in 1973.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday June 15, 1993, at the First Baptist Church in Eagle Grove. The Reverend Arthur Anderson officiated. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Kastler-Babcock was in charge of arrangements.
