Memorial Services for Claire Enge Held in Minnesota

FAIRMONT, MN--Former Palo Alto County resident Claire Enge of Fairmont, Minn., died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at the Fairmont Community hospital. He was 76. Memorial services for Mr. Enge were held Wednesday, Nov. 22, at the United Methodist Church in Fairmont, Minn. Burial will take place at a later date in West Bend Cemetery, West Bend. Lakeview Funeral Home, Fairmont, Minn., is in charge of arrangements.

Claire Therald Enge was born Sept. 23, 1924, near Kanawha, the son of Alvin and Aletta (Johnson) Enge. He grew up and attended schools in Iowa and graduated from Plover High School in 1942. Mr. Enge served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Following military service, he was employed at the West Bend Elevator, West Bend. On Fe. 23, 1947, Claire Enge and Mary Dunn were married at West Bend. He attended Iowa State University, Ames, and in 1953 the couple moved to a farm near Ringsted. Mr. Enge farmed near Cylinder and sold insurance in Emmetsburg. In 1972, Claire and Mary Enge moved to Fairmont, Minn., where he was employed as the custodian at the First National Bank until his retirement in 1986.

Mr. Enge was a member of the United Methodist Church, Martin County VFW Post #1222, Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post #36, Lions Club and the Golden K. He was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, the Martin County Library and the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center.

Survivors include two sons, Allen Enge of San Antonio, Tex., and Randy and Barb Enge of Aurora, Colo.; a daughter Karla Enge of Aurora, Colo.; and five grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Ilene and Carl Knapp of Ringsted, Phyllis Oberg of Grand Forks, N.D., and Norma and Jim Miller of Fargo, N.D.; and Rita Enge of Phoenix, Ariz., Raymond Enge of Spirit Lake, and Allen and Pat Enge of Cass Lake, Minn. Mr. Enge was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, Sept. 19, 1998; and his parents.
