March 18, 1918 --- August 28, 2015

CLEAR LAKE, IA -- Helen Lee Bergmann, 97, of Clear Lake died Friday, Aug. 28, 2015, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dr. Pat Hall officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, 2015, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel in Clear Lake. Family suggests memorial contributions to the Helen Bergmann Memorial Fund.

Helen was born March 18, 1918, the daughter of Carl and Hannah (Olson) Lee in Saude. She married Lester W. Bergmann on June 1, 1940, in Saude. He preceded her in death on April 6, 1992. A graduate of Cresco High School, class of 1937, Helen graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in 1938. She taught country school in Belmond from 1944-1948 before moving to Clear Lake in 1953. She worked at Mode 'O Day for a few years and then Holiday Lounge from 1957-1983. Helen was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she belonged to Circle and led Bible study on Wednesdays for many years. She enjoyed going to church, refinishing furniture, and walking.

Helen is survived by three children: Anthony (Lucy) Bergmann of Mazeppa, Minnesota, David Bergmann of Grandview, Missouri, and Kim (Richard) Cory of Mason City; seven grandchildren: Kelly Bergmann, Jay (Christina) Bergmann of Lebanon, Oregon, Lindsey (Chris) Schultz of Mason City, Leslie (Andrew Lowthort) Bergmann of Kansas City, Adriane Bergmann of San Antonio, Riley Bergmann of Minneapolis, and Ben (Lisa) Cory of Cedar Falls; and three great-grandchildren, Sean and Allison Bergmann of Lebanon and Whitney Schultz of Mason City. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; seven brothers, Herb, Oliver, Sigurd, Clarence, Everol, Art, Harold; and a sister, Ruby Wiedeman. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, Iowa.
