Birdie Marie Bailey was born September 7, 1903, the daughter of Samuel and Polly Ruhday Bailey at Duncombe. She was educated in Lehigh. She was united in marriage to Claude C. Harrah of Lehigh on October 8, 1925 at Boone. The family lived in Stratford, Laurens, Plover and Humboldt, before moving to Eagle Grove in 1941. She worked for the Diamond Brothers Grocery in Eagle Grove for four years before moving to the James Farm west of Eagle Grove in 1944. They retired from the farm in 1966 and moved back to Eagle Grove. Mr. Harrah died in 1973. She maintained her home in Eagle Grove until moving to the Rotary Ann Nursing Home on December 30, 1992. She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Rebekah Lodge, and served for four years as the first president of Eagle Grove Senior Citizens.

Birdie Marie Harrah died at the Rotary Ann Home on January 8, 1993, at the age of 89 years, four months and one day. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Claude, Jr.; brothers, Cleve, Richard, Tom, George, and John Bailey and sisters, Ester Young and Alta Fye. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Robert (Mary Lou) Caquelin of Allen, Texas; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 12 at the United Church of Christ, Eagle Grove, with the Rev. Edgar James officiating at the 2 p.m. service. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Kastler-Babcock Service, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
