Charles Willard Frakes was born May 10, 1926, the son of Walter and Laura Baker Frakes at Eagle Grove. He received his education in the Eagle Grove school system. He entered the U.S. Army on July 25, 1943, at Fort Snelling, Minn: He served in the Philippines during World War II, and was honorably discharged on November 13, 1945, at Kure, Japan.

He was united in marriage to Ethel Kubly on September 20, 1947 at Eagle Grove. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove where he was employed by the Umthun Trucking Company until 1971. Charles and his wife then relocated to Versailles, Mo., where he owned and operated the Apco Gas Station. He later went on to become an assistant foreman at the Brown Shoe Factory in Versailles. They returned to Eagle Grove and he began employment at Dodgen Manufacturing in Humboldt until becoming disabled in 1979. He was a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove; the V.F.W., and the American Legion.

Charles Willard Frakes died following an extended illness, March 11, 1993, at the Hamilton County Public Hospital in Webster City, at the age of 66 years; 10 months and one day. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers. He is survived by his wife; one son, David of Eagle Grove; two grandchildren, Mrs. Troy (Pamela) Morris of Kearney, Mo., and Mrs. Kendall (Angela) Johnson of Eagle Grove; four sisters, Mrs. Waldo (Evelyn) Widman of Stratford; Elvira Reed, Mrs. Jim (Dorothy) Wilson, and Mrs. Bill (Linda) Norton all of Eagle Grove; and three brothers, Melvin and Earl, both of Des Moines; and Royce of Eagle Grove.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 15 at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. The Rev. Thomas Evans officiated at the 11 a.m. service, and burial with full military rites was conducted at the LuVerne Cemetery, LuVerne. Kastler-Babcock Services, Eagle Grove, was in charge of the arrangements.
