Marie Stultz was born on March 2, 1898, the daughter of Roscoe and Fredonia Stultz in Eagle Grove, Iowa. She received her education in the Eagle Grove school system and graduated cum laude from Eagle Grove High School in 1916. Marie then taught country school in Wright County, Iowa prior to WWI and she worked in Washington, D. C. during the war. She was united in marriage to Archie W. Johnson of Eagle Grove, Iowa on August 31, 1919. Following her husband's death in 1944, Marie was employed at The Grill, and later the Garrett Insurance Agency in Eagle Grove. She retired in 1963 and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico to live with her sister, Eloise. She returned to Eagle Grove upon the death of her sister.

Marie S. Johnson passed away at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove on March 14, 1993 at the age of 95 years, 12 days. She leaves in passing her three sons: Ray W. Johnson of Vista, Calif., Richard L. Johnson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and James R. Johnson of St. Paul, Minn.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Anne Marie Johnson, two brothers, Paul and Harvey, and two sisters, Mildred Gunderson Balk and Eloise Schulte. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Eagle Grove, and the organization of Business and Professional Women. Graveside services were held on Wednesday, March 17, 1993, at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove, Iowa. The Reverend Edgar James officiated the 1:30 p.m. service. Kastler-Babcock Services were in charge of arrangements.
