Durwood Douglas Miller was born November 30, 1916, the son of Walter and Margaret Weir Miller at Hampton. He received his education in the Hampton school system, and graduated from Hampton High School in 1934. Following his graduation he entered the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, and received his teaching degree in Industrial Arts in 1938. His first teaching assignment was in the Gladbrook High School in Gladbrook. He was united in marriage to Harriett Rash of Marshalltown January 18, 1942, at Seattle, Wash. The couple remained in Seattle for a period of three years before moving to Hampton. In 1946, they moved to Eagle Grove where he was head of the Industrial Arts Department at the Eagle Grove High School. He was also an administrator at the Eagle Grove Junior College for 10 years. He was a member of the Park Church of Christ in Goldfield, the I.S.E.A., Epsilon Pi Tau, and the Eagle Grove Lions Club.

Durwood Douglas Miller died at the Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion March 9, 1993 at the age of 76 years, three months and nine days. He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandson, Christopher Naumann. He is survived by his wife; one son, Douglas of Hampton; one daughter, Mrs. Larry (Valerie) Naumann of Boynton, Okla.; one brother, Galer of Greenwood, Ind.; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday, March 12 at the Park Church of Christ in Goldfield. The Pastors Tony Brandt and Dale Knowles officiated at the 10 a.m. services and burial was in the Hampton Cemetery, Hampton, Iowa. Kastler-Babcock Services, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
