Phillip Gerhard Thompson, Age 84 of St. Paul, Passed away November 10, 2014 Preceded in death by wife, Fay. Survived by daughter, Karen (Anthony) Strauss; son, Paul (Elisabeth Ryzen, MD) Thompson; granddaughters, Julia and Elizabeth Strauss; sisters, Kathryn Hanson and Jeannette (Scott) Haasarud; nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral Service 2:00 PM Thursday, Nov. 13 (visitation 1-2 PM) at LYNGBLOMSTEN CARE CENTER CHAPEL, 1415 Almond Ave., St. Paul. Interment Elmhurst Cemetery. Phillip was a 1954 graduate of St. Olaf College with a degree in Chemistry. He was a Korean War Veteran and was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. After earning his Ph.D, Phillip was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to the University of Cambridge, England. He worked for several years at 3M as a Research Chemist and later at the University of Minnesota in technology transfer and environmental health and safety. Memorials preferred to St. Paul Chamber Orchestra or Lyngblomsten Care Center.
