Vesta Thompson, was born on January 15, 1899, in Boomer Township, in Pottawattamie County, Iowa, the daughter of James and Rasmina Rassmussen Christiansen. She died at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge, Iowa on Wednesday, May 14, 1980 at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 29 days. She attended the rural schools of Pottawattamie County, Iowa; then attended a Girls School in Red Wing; and graduated from St. Olaf College at Northfield, Minn. with the class of 1925. She was united in marriage with Tolford G. Thompson of Eagle Grove on Sept. 1, 1926 in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Neola, Iowa. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove and to this union were born three children, Phillip, Kathryn and Jeannette. Mr. Thompson was associated for many years with the Security Savings Bank in Eagle Grove. He died in April, 1976.

Vesta was a longtime member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and had served as a Sunday School teacher and had served on many other boards and committee's of the church. She was a member of the Equality Club of Eagle Grove and was a volunteer worker at the Rotary Ann Home.

She is survived by her children, Phillip and his wife, Fay Thompson of St. Paul, Minn.; Kathryn and her husband, Vernon Hanson of St. Peter, Minn.; Jeannette and her husband, Rev. R. Scott Haasarud of Pasadena, Calif.; her grandchildren, Margaret Hanson, David Hanson, Barbara Hanson Benforado, Karen Thompson, Paul Thompson, Kevin Haasarud, Kirsten Haasarud and Bryce Haasarud and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother, Alvin Christiansen.

Funeral services for Mrs. Vesta Thompson were held on Saturday, May 17, 1980 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church at 1:30 p. m. Rev. Marvin A. Berkeland officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery. The Kastler-Babcock Funeral home was in charge of the arrangements.
