Robert Eugene Detmering was born July 24, 1923 in Livermore, Iowa. He was the second of five children of Earl C. and Delores Mae Funk Detmering. Robert grew up and attended school in Iowa, and graduated with the class of 1940. He was married in 1946 to Marjorie Adeline Michaelson in Livermore. They made their home in Eagle Grove and became the parents of three children.
Robert Detmering served in the U. S. Navy during World War II, and with the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He worked at a lumber yard in Eagle Grove for a time, and until the late 1950's, he raced stockcars. He left Iowa, and moved to Nebraska for a year. He then moved to Miami
County, Kan. in the early 1960's. He drove a truck for Guy's Foods and the Debreck Trucking in Paola, Kan. He was married to Mary M. Burt Allen May 11, 1964. They made their home in Paola until 1976, when they moved to Osawatomie, Kan. He belonged to the Methodist Church and belonged to the American Legion in Paola.Robert Detmering, Sr. died Thursday, November 5, 1987 unexpectedly at his home in Osawatomie, Kan., at the age of 64. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one daughter. He is survived by his wife, Mary M. Detmering; one son, Robert E. Detmering, Jr., Mason City; one daughter, Rebecca Jo Resitter, Sioux City; four brothers, George, Wesley; Earl, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Franklin, Stockton, Calif.; Fred, Fort Dodge; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 8, 1987 in the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, Osawatomie, Kan. The Rev. Lewis Heiney officiated. Burial was held in the Fontana Cemetery, Fontana, Kansas.
