Memorial services for Jean Brunton Tillman were held at the Eyler Funeral Home in Clarion at 10 a.m. Tuesday. November 23, 1982. Rev. Bill Duay officiated, with internment in Clarion Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dean Bohy, George Daggett, Robert Kirstein, Willis Kluss, Clair McCullough and Roger Sumners.
Jean Lucille Brunton was born in Des Moines on February 2, 1891 to Thomas Andrew and Lillian Jane Brunton. She was united in marriage to Charles C. Tillman of Clarion on August 17, 1914. Mrs. Tillman died on November 18, 1982 in Riverside, California where she had lived for the past six years, at the age of 91 years, 9 months and 16 days. She is survived by one daughter, Lois J. Stafford of Westminster, California and four sons, Charles W., Davenport; George A., Nehalem, Oregon; Philip E. and Kay B., both of Riverside, California; a brother, John A. Brunton, Seattle, Washington; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, and four great-greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one sister. Myrtle Coggins.
She was educated in the Des Moines Public Schools and attended Drake University and Iowa State Teachers College. She moved to Wright County at the age of 20 and taught in the Wright County schools until her marriage. She had two great loves in life: her family, whose interests always came before her own, and poetry. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge. She left Clarion in 1975 to be near her beloved children and resided in the I.O.O.F. Home in Portland, Oregon. During the past six years of failing health she was a resident of Riverside, California.
