Charles George Johnson was born on October 3, 1901, to Jacob and Martha Rolland Johnson at Eagle Grove, Iowa. He was baptized on December 1, 1901, at the East Side Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. He attended school in Eagle Grove. He was united in marriage to Bertha Johnson on December 15, 1928, at Fort Dodge, Iowa. He worked for the Railroad before working for Christensen Produce and then finally for the Wilson Produce Company. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World.

Charles "Polly" Johnson died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at 603 N. W. 2nd St. in Eagle Grove at the age of 99. He is survived by his daughter, Maxine Bailey, Eagle Grove; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on June 21, 1979; three brothers, Bill, Jeff, and Andrew; and two sisters, Mable Hacker and Myrtle Richardson.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at 1:30 p.m. at the Willim Funeral Home in Eagle Grove with Reverend Paul Stone officiating. Willim Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of the arrangements.
