April 19, 1909 --- May 28, 1946

Willard Johnson, son of Jacob Johnson and wife Martha, was born on April 19, 1909, at Eagle Grove, Iowa, and died in his room at the Broadway Hotel, Eagle Grove, May 28, 1946, at the age of 37 years, one month and nine days. He was baptised with the Christian baptism August 29, 1909, received instruction and confessed the Christian faith with his class on November 11, 1923. He attended the Eagle Grove public schools and lived at Eagle Grove all his life, and was employed by the C. & N. W. Railroad.

On April 13, 1939, he was married to Laura Voight, and one child, Judy Ann, was born to them. He was inducted into the army of the United States on February 24, 1943, at Camp Dodge, Iowa. He served in the battles of Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland Central Europe. He received decorations and citations as follows: European-African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, Silver Bottle Star, Three Overseas Service Bars, Good Conduct Medal, Belgian Fourrangers Co. 13522 HQ WO 1945, and received his honorable discharge October 26, 1945, at Fort Sheridan, Ill.

His mother died February 11, 1930. He is survived by his aged father, living at Emmons, Minn., and by three brothers, Andrew Johnson, Hawarden; Charles Johnson, Eagle Grove; and Harold Johnson, also of Eagle Grove; and by two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Hacker, Emmons, Minn., and Mrs. Myrtle Richardson, Luverne, Iowa.

Willard was a friendly character, true to his friends, and a willing worker.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Kastler funeral home in charge of the Rev. T. J. Severtson. Clarence Shurtz Post of the American legion conducted military rites. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.
