July 19, 1876 --- August 23, 1919
Jerome Andrew Thompson, the son of Coleman and Elizabeth Thompson, was born in Flora, Clay Co., Ill., on July 19, 1876, and departed this life at his home near Eagle Grove, Iowa, at 2 a. m., on August 23rd, being a little more than 43 years of age. Mr. Thompson lived all but the last live years of his life near the place of his birth. These last years were spent in and about Eagle Grove in agricultural pursuits.
The deceased was united in marriage with Effie Nagel on February 15th, 1899. And to this union eight children were born, one of whom died in infancy. The surviving children are; Glen, Florence, Lester, Verna, Harold, Emory and Kenneth. Other surviving relatives are the parents and eleven brothers and sisters.
These all mourn the loss of one who was faithful in each relationship of life. Though handicapped throughout his entire married life by poor health, the deceased had found time to take a practical interest in the best things of life. When but sixteen years of age he united with the Christian church and demonstrated his interest and worthiness by many years of practical and faithful service.
For more than ten years of his life he acted as a superintendent of S.S. and seven of these years were served in one place. The last year of such service was given in a union S.S. east of Woodstock. How comforting is the memory of such service in an hour when death calls.
Largely attended funeral services were held from the Baptist church on Sunday, at 2 p.m., and burial was made in Rose Hill cemetery, Eagle Grove, Ia.
