April 1, 1924 -- July 2, 2015

Barbara Jane Bogard, 91, of Mason City, died Thursday, July 2, 2015, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church, 119 S. George Ave., with Mary Snell officiating. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will take place at a later date. Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa where she was involved in its beginnings.

Barbara was born April 1, 1924, in Goldfield , Iowa, the daughter of Gerald and Barbara Ellen (Kabele) Moseley. She attended school in Goldfield and graduated Salutatorian of her class in 1941. She was an all-state band Baritone player for two years. She attended Monmouth College for one year on a scholarship and then graduated from Iowa State University in Dietetics in 1945. She was in the first Iowa State Marching Band that allowed women to march.

She married Carroll S. Bogard July 8, 1945, in Goldfield after Carroll returned from service during World War II. They moved to Oklahoma City where she interned for her Master's Degree. Later they moved to Inwood, Iowa, where Carroll taught school. In 1951, they moved to Armstrong, Iowa, where Carroll became superintendent of schools. Barb substitute-taught Spanish and they began their family. In 1963, they moved to Mason City. Barb taught quantitative cooking at North Iowa Area Community College for two years. For the next 22 years, she was a dietitian at Memorial Hospital Park Clinic. She was involved with the designing and moving the hospital kitchen from Park Clinic to North Iowa Medical Center. Barb was involved in the National Dietetic Association and held several offices. After retiring, she consulted with Hospice and the Rockwell Care Center.

Her passion was her family. She loved to camp and travel out west. She and Carroll were very active in the American Ex-POW state and national organization. She was a very gentle, loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a tap and ballet dancer from kindergarten into her 30's and she's now dancing in the heavens.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of over 70 years, Carroll S. Bogard of Mason City; three children, Jeff (Susie) Bogard of Golden, Colorado, Liz Bogard Ivonavitch (Jim) of Mason City and Barb (Richard) Weiner of Nora Springs; 11 grandchildren, Lucas (Miyuki) Bogard of Golden, Colorado, Lauren Bogard of Washington, D.C., Clay (Sarah) Ivonavitch of Mason City, Katelin (Cody) Lugar of Mason City, Jenni Ivonavitch of Mason City, Bryn Ivonavitch of Mason City, Dustin (Andrea) Weiner of Ankeny, Bobby (Katie) Weiner of Mason City, Kelli Jo (Jake) Heimer of Nora Springs, Sammy Booth of Mason City, and Charlie Weiner of Ames; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Norma Maurer of Cedar Creek, Texas; many nieces, nephews, friends and special neighbors at the Village Cooperative residence.
