October 9, 1964 -- June 24, 2015

Stephen E. Cartwright, 50, of Mason City, died Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 29, 2015, at the Clear Lake Christian Church, 302 Highway 18 West, Clear Lake, with Pastor Scott Wilson officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City. Memorials may be directed to the Clear Lake Christian Church Christ for Sierra Leone.

Steve was born Oct. 9, 1964, in Bradley County, Tennessee, the son of Freddy and Diana (Romines) Cartwright. He was raised in Tennessee and worked various jobs along the East Coast before moving to Charles City, Iowa, in 1993 and becoming a welder by trade. In 2007, he met the love of his life, Janice Cartwright. They were married Jan. 16, 2008, in Mason City. Steve was a member of the Clear Lake Christian Church. A few of his interests included animals, playing the harmonica and drinking coffee and Coca-Cola.

Steve is survived by his wife, Janice, of Mason City; father, Freddy (Ina) Cartwright of Cleveland, Tennessee; mother, Diana (John) Brock of Cleveland, Tennessee; step-father, Jackie Meeks of Claxton, Georgia; brother, Ricky (Teresa) Cartwright of Cleveland, Tennessee; sister, Sonya Meeks of Lebanon, Tennessee; father and mother-in-law, Henry and Josie DeWaard of Kanawha; brother-in-law, John (Phyllis) DeWaard of Kanawha; special friends, Allen and Debbie Moore of Cleveland, Tennessee, who Steve referred to as "mom and dad," and Johnny Meeks of Dalton, Georgia; his pets, Dahlia, Anna and Taboo. Steve is preceded in death by his sister, Brandy; brother-in-law, James DeWaard; sister-in-law, Jerry DeWaard.

Steve's family would like to give special thanks to his brothers and sisters in Christ, his church family, his caregivers, especially the CCU Unit at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa , his friends at Jitters and the Iowa Donor Network.
