October 24, 1908 -- June 9, 2015

DOWS, Iowa-- Arlene Dietrich, age 106, of Dows, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at the Clarion Wellness and Rehab Center in Clarion. Funeral services for Arlene Dietrich will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday June 13, 2015, at the First Lutheran Church in Dows. Pastor Grant Woodley will officiate. Burial will take place in the Fairview Cemetery in Dows. Visitation for Arlene Dietrich will be held from 11 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. Dugger Funeral Home, 100 N. Lee S., Dows, is in charge of arrangements.

Arlene Dietrich, daughter of Jacob and Katheryn Minnie Peterson Dietrich, was born October 24, 1908, at Alden, Franklin County, Iowa. Arlene was the great-granddaughter of Marie Josephine Dietrich who, because of religious reasons, brought her family of six children from Baden-Baden, Germany, settling in New Berlin, IL. It was here she started the new life for her family.

Arlene's early education was received in the rural schools of Franklin County. She graduated in 1926 from Popejoy High School. At the time of Arlene's death she was currently the oldest surviving graduate of Popejoy High School. Arlene attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Following her graduation she taught school for five years, she then went to Hamilton Secretary School in Mason City. After Hamilton's, Arlene moved to Omaha, NE and worked for McFarland and Kennedy, Inc. until her retirement.

After retirement, she moved back to Dows. In Dows, Arlene was very active, volunteering many hours at the Dows Depot Museum. Arlene was member of First Lutheran Church, where she was active in the FLCW. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and American Legion Auxiliary.

Arlene is survived by two nieces, Marlys Buum of Chamberlain, SD, and Kathryn Miller of Mason City; two nephews, Larry Dietrich of Cabool, MO and Marlyn Dietrich of Virginia Beach, VA; great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews and a host of friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Joseph and Kenneth, and one half-brother, Gaurdie D. Ginder.
