March 20, 1917 --- June 17, 2015

Lois E. Jenkins, 98, of Cable died Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at Water's Edge Care Center, surrounded by her children. Lois was born in Belmond, Iowa, on March 20, 1917 to Ernest Stapley and Edith Hillhouse Stapley and was the sixth of seven children. After graduating high school she moved to Chicago to live with her eldest brother, Merrill, and his family. It was in Chicago that she met and married Rev. Joseph Jenkins on June 4, 1939. At that time Rev. Jenkins was the pastor of the Congregational Churches in Chicago Heights and Steger, Illinois. In 1942 Rev. Jenkins enlisted in the U.S Army as a chaplain and was overseas for the next three years, leaving Lois to raise their two boys. In 1945 the family moved to Fulton, Illinois, then to Chicago in 1946, where a son was born. In 1947 a daughter and son were born at Danville, Illinois. In 1950 the family moved to Cable, where Rev. Jenkins became pastor to the UCC Church.

Lois was most active raising her children and grandchildren, in the support of her husband and the many activities of the church. She enjoyed the company of her friends and being a part of the larger Cable community. She liked to have fun and laugh about things that happened along life's path. She loved to travel, visit family and friends, old and new. Lois was one of the original crew of EMTs on the Great Divide Ambulance Service and was an EMT for about 15 years. She was also one of the founders of the Arts and Academic Scholarship Fund for Drummond High School students.

Lois is survived by her children, Paul, James (Marilyn), Joseph and Janet, all of Cable; grandchildren, Traci Goebig, Sara (Aaron) Tinklenberg, Emily (Matt) Polansky, Eric (Allyson) Jenkins, Jesse Fredericks and Eli (Lisa) Fredericks. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; son, David; grandson, Christopher; and her siblings.

A funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, June 26, at the Cable UCC Church with Rev. Wendy Jaine Summers officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church, with a lunch immediately following the service. The family wishes to thank the staff at Water's Edge Care Center in Hayward for the loving care given to Lois. Memorials may be directed to the UCC Church for a youth fund or to the Great Divide Ambulance Service.
