C. Hotchkiss Buried Here Wednesday

Pneumonia Proved Fatal to Son of Mrs. J.A. Iverson on Sunday, January 12th, 1930

Clifford Hotchkiss is dead. That was the sad news that greeted people Sunday morning. Graduating from the high school with high honors with the class of 1927, Young Hotchkiss entered Ames and immediately made a name for himself as a scholar and student, which was a source of pride to his family and of great satisfaction to the high school faculty, who had his preliminary training in charge. Not only was he a good student in high school but he was an exceptionally skillful debater. He was considerate and cheerful at the end of his rather prolonged illness which developed into quick pneumonia. He was brought back from Ames last week and at his own request was seated in his favorite chair when the end came. The sincerest sympathy of the entire city is extended the bereaved relatives The following obituary was prepared and read at the funeral service by Clifford's pastor, the Rev. T.J. Severtson.

Clifford Lloyd Hotchkiss was born to Clarence and Louise Hotchkiss at Watertown, S.D., Oct. 28, 1910 and died at his home, 209 South Lucas Ave., Eagle Grove, Iowa, on Jan. 12, 1930, age 19 years, two months and 15 days. His father died at Spring Brook Wis., April 11, 1915. In 1919, Mrs. Hotchkiss was united in marriage to Dr. J. A. Iverson and Clifford came with them to Eagle Grove, which has since been his home. Clifford was baptized into Christ Jesus Dec. 11, 1910, and confessed his Christian faith at confirmation on May 24, 1935. He graduated from the Eagle Grove High School with the class of 1937, and entered the Iowa State College at Ames that same fall. He was now a junior in the department of chemical engineering. Clifford was an exceptional talented young man, but he was also very industrious. He ranked high in his studies: all his work was well done. He was very faithful to his home, to his church and to his God and Savior, quiet and unassuming in his manner of being. He leaves to mourn his untimely departure, his parents, Dr. and Mrs. J. A. Iverson and one sister, Alice. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 from the home and 1 o'clock for the Eagle Grove Lutheran church. Burial was made in the Iverson family lot at the Otis Grove Lutheran church cemetery near Dows, Iowa.
