September 29, 1867 --- August 18, 1957

Nels Hansen Christiansen was born the 29th of Aug., 1867 in Holding, Denmark to Andrew and Mattie Christianson and passed away in Eagle Grove on Aug 18, at 3:15 a.m. at the Jordan Nursing Home, age 89 years, 11 months, 20 days. He was baptized unto Christ, received instruction and confessed his Christian faith in his youth. He came to America in 1887 to Gibson City, Ill., where he was united in marriage to Ellen Marie Matsen in 1890. They lived there for three years and in 1893 they came to Hardy, where they lived eight years. In 1901 they moved to Hawarden and in 1934 they came to Eagle Grove which has been his home since.

Mr. Christiansen is survived by one brother Peter Christiansen, Idaville, Ind., two sons, Elmer Christiansen, Pocahontas and Harry Christiansen, Cherokee, five daughters, Margaret Johnson, Racine, Wis., Lena Peterson, Eagle Grove, Serena Meiers, Eldora, Emma Linn, Eagle Grove, and Loretta Hesse, Betterdorf, 34 grandchildren and over 30 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; 3 daughters and two brothers.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug, 20th in the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church, conducted, by Rev. B . F . Molstre. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
