Funeral services for Emil A. Kunert, 103, Humboldt, were held Thursday, Oct. 7, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Humboldt, with burial in the Union Cemetery, Humboldt. He died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at the Humboldt Care Center South, Humboldt. The Mason - Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt was in charge of the arrangements, with the Rev. Kevin Weeks officiating. Military graveside rites were performed by Adams American Legion Post #119, Humboldt. Casket bearers were Ronnie Vinsand, Randy Vinsand, Gary Vinsand, Duane Larson, John Larson, and Harlan Schultz.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Jean Kunert and Ray and Diane Kunert, all of Humboldt; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Daisy; a son, Melvin; a sister, Rosa Hodges; and two brothers, Walter and Frank.

Emil A. Kunert, son of Hermann and Helena (Gauger) Kunert, was born Jan. 17, 1896, in Grove Township, Humboldt County, where he was raised on the family farm. He attended Grove #9 country school, and following his education he was employed as an automobile mechanic in Thor. During World War I he served with the United States Army in France. Following his discharge from the service, he returned to the family farm. In 1920 he was united in marriage to Daisy Chaffee at Fort Dodge. The couple made their home on the family farm, where they lived for over 60 years. Following his wife's death in February, 1981, he continued to maintain his home, until moving to Humboldt Homes in 1986. He became a resident of the Humboldt Care Center South in December, 1993. He was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and the Adams American Legion Post #119 of Humboldt.
