February 1837 --- April 14, 1903

Death of a Pioneer

John J. McManaman, one of the oldest and best known residents in the northwest part of the county, died at his home in Preston township early on Tuesday morning from asthma and catarrh of the stomach. He was a native of Ireland where he was born eighty two years ago. He came to the United States when a young man, and to Plymouth county thirty-five years ago. He was highly respected among a large circle of friends and neighbors.

He leaves a wife and eight children Mrs. J. McGillvrey, of LeMars; Mrs. Grimes, Sioux City; Mrs. J. Neuman, Eagle Grove: John and James McManaman of Kingsley, Patrick McManaman, of Hawarden and Peter and Margaret who reside at home. Mrs. Bridget McCoy, of this city, is a sister of the deceased. The funeral was held at the Catholic church in Hawarden on yesterday and was well attended.
