Russell H. Krog, 87, of rural Vincent, died Thursday, February 26, 2015, at his residence. A service honoring Russell’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 2, at South Enes Lutheran Church in Vincent with the Rev. Susan Stone officiating. Interment will follow in the Newark Township Cemetery. The visitation is 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to Holy Trinity Parish, South Enes Lutheran Church or the Vincent Fire Department.

Russell is survived by his children, Cynthia of Ames; Dave (Kim) of Des Moines; and Douglas (Karla) of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Michael (Andrea) of Fort Dodge; Alexandra of West Des Moines; Andrew (fiancé Lisa Thelke) of St. Louis, MO; and Benjamin of Iowa City; great-grandchildren, Miles and Annabelle of Fort Dodge; his sister Charlotte Schweppe of Kamrar; sister-in-law Clara Krog of Vincent; and brother-in-law Jerry Gaffey of Kenosha, WI. He was preceded in death by his wife Joan, his parents, his brothers, Donald and Lyle Krog and his sister Violet Krog.

Russell Howard Krog, the son of Oscar and Eva (Christopher) Krog, was born July 3, 1927, in Webster County. He grew up on a farm near Vincent and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1944. Russell served in the U.S. Army infantry during the Korean War. On January 21, 1956, Russell was united in marriage to Joan Krog [nee Gaffey] at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Fort Dodge. They made their residence near Vincent where they farmed. Russell served on the Vincent Co-op and New Co-op board of directors from 1958 to 1978, the Felco/Land O’ Lakes board of directors from 1967 to 1972, the Wright County REC board of directors from 1980 to 2001 and the Corn Belt board of directors from 1989 to 2000. He served as a Vincent volunteer fireman from 1957 to 1987 and served on the Vincent fireman board from 1982 to 2002 and served as a Newark Township Trustee from 1982 to 2003. Russ loved his family and cherished time with family and friends. He also loved to farm, farming for 70 years. His final harvest was last fall.
