September 15, 1938 --- February 23, 2015

Vivian J. Pals, age 76, of Belmond, passed away Monday February 23, 2015 at the Iowa Specialty Hospital of Belmond. ​Funeral services for Vivian J. Pals will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday February 26, 2015 at First Reformed Church in Alexander. Pastor Phillip Arnold will officiate. Burial will take place in the Alexander cemetery east of Alexander. Visitation for Vivian J. Pals will be from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. Wednrsday February 25, 2015 at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond and will continue for one hour prior to services on Thursday.

Vivian Jane was born September 15, 1938 to Dan and Sadie (VanBuskirk) Fjetland in Belmond. Vivian grew up and attended school in various communities around Iowa. She graduated from Riceville High School in 1956. Vivian married Leland “Dale” Johnson on December 1, 1957. The couple were blessed with two sons Rick and Alan. They made their home in Alexander. Vivian drove school bus and was a part-time custodian at CAL Community School District. Dale passed away on September 1, 1978. Vivian married Delbert Pals April 11, 1987. Delbert and Vivian made their home on the family farm southwest of Meservey. Vivian very much enjoyed helping Delbert farm. She especially enjoyed working in the fields during harvest. The couple built their home and moved to Belmond in 2012.

Vivian lead a very active and busy life. She was a ferocious volunteer. Vivian was always seeking family and friends in need of a helping hand and the majority of the time was the first to offer help. She loved to read. Vivian often looked forward to the special “sisters’ week-ends”. Vivian was an active member of the First Reformed Church in Alexander. But she will be remembered most for her dedication to her grandchildren. She and Delbert attended numerous school programs and sporting events.

Vivian is survived by her husband Delbert, son, Rick (Kim) of Meservey, grandchildren Nate (Mazey) of Latimer and Katie. One great-grandchild Tegun, three sisters Donna Johnson, Meservey, Judy Peil (Robert Modderman) of Alexander and Betty (Scott) Dungey of Osage. Two brothers Eldon of Riceville and Larry (Ruby) of Edgewood, AR. Numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Vivian is preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale, son Alan, sister Lila, and five brothers Dale, Darold, Donald, Danny and Lorin.
