Arlene Dawley, 84, of Nevada, formerly Charles City, died Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Story County Senior Care in Nevada, Iowa. A funeral service for Arlene Dawley will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Arlene Margaret (Valeske) Dawley, the daughter of Carl and Edna (Swant) Valeske, was born March 9, 1930 in Charles City. She attended school in Colwell and graduated from Colwell High School. On December 18, 1948 Arlene was united in marriage to Gerald Dawley in Charles City. The couple made their home in Charles City and began to raise their family. Arlene worked at the Oliver Tractor Factory for many years doing payroll. She also worked as a nurse’s aide at the hospital in Clarion, in a doctor’s office in Eagle Grove and as a secretary for the principal at Eagle Grove High School. Arlene and Gerald retired to Arizona where they lived for 17 years before moving back to Charles City.

Arlene was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church and was also very active in the Lutheran Church she and Gerald attended while living in Arizona. She enjoyed playing cards, golfing, but was a huge sports enthusiast. Arlene loved to watch sports and talk about sports with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Living family members include her husband of 66 years, Gerald of Nevada; two daughters: Debra (Jerry) Green of Hiawatha and Connie (Dan) Curtis of Elkhart; six grandchildren: Chad Dannewitz, Cole Dannewitz, Christine (Mark) Copeland, Josh (Audra) Curtis, Joe (Kristina) Curtis and Alex (Emily) Curtis; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Beverly (Jerry) Copper of Charles City, Yvonne Regel of Charles City and Joan Courneen of Santa Cruz, California; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Galen as an infant. The Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City, is in charge of arrangements.
