July 28, 1940 --- February 4, 2014

“Joe” Joseph P. Aalborg, 74 of Giltner [Nebraska] died Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. Reverend Todd Philipsen will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery at Giltner with military honors rendered by the Aurora American Legion Post 42. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday with a Christian Wake service at 7 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.

Mr. Aalborg was born July 28, 1940 at Clarion, IA the son of LeRoy and Wilma (Wanek) Aalborg. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife of 51 years, Betty; children, Cynthia De La Cruz of Giltner, Julie Cates and her fiancé, Faran Johnson of Grand Island, Susan and Matthew Aalborg-Glenn of Altoona, IA and Dan Aalborg of Aurora; brother, John Aalborg of Lincoln; grandchildren, Amanda and Ben Lammers, Heather and Matt Coito, Brittney and Glen Bills, John Cates and Brittany Stearns, Colin and Maggie Cates, Kyleigh Glenn and Briahnna Glenn; five great-grandchildren and his four legged companion, Dodger. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Joe graduated from Aurora High School and served in the United States Navy from 1958-1963. He was united in marriage to Betty Spotanski on August 17, 1963. They farmed near Giltner. He retired from farming in 1986, then owned and operated Aalborg Trucking. They also owned and operated Nine Bridge Restaurant for 3 years. He is a member of Blessed Sacrament; served as a 4-H Leader; served on the Giltner School Board for 12 years and the Giltner Volunteer Fire Department for 12 years and was a member of the Aurora American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed horses and collecting model railroad trains. Joe was an honest, loving, caring man whose impact will be shared by many. Because of Joe’s love of animals memorials are suggested to Central Nebraska Humane Society.
