BELMOND -- Wilma G. Dorr, 99, of Ames and long-time resident of Belmond, passed away Sunday Feb. 8, 2015, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday Feb. 11, 2015, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond, with Monsignor Joseph Slepicka officiating. Burial will be in St Francis Cemetery, near Belmond. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday prior to the funeral Mass at the church. A parish rosary will be said by the Catholic Daughters beginning at 10 a.m., also on Wednesday. Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane S., in Belmond is in charge of arrangements.
Wilma Glade Dorr was born Sept. 3, 1915, to John and Minnie Holland Glade of Dows, Iowa, the second of five children. Wilma graduated from Dows High School in 1933. Wilma was married to Clair F. Dorr on May 14, 1935, at the Catholic rectory in Belmond, Iowa. To this union three sons were born, Jerry, Harold and Rob Dorr.
Wilma was a loving wife and mother. She was devoted to and active in her church and was a charter member of the Catholic Daughters of America and has been a member for 76 years. She lived in the home she and Clair built in Belmond, from 1935 to 2010. Wilma’s character, work ethic, and compassion were an inspiration to everyone. She loved working outdoors and was especially fond of her beautiful flower garden. In 2010, she moved to Ames to live with her son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Lilith, and more recently was a resident of the Brickford Assisted Living in Ames.
Wilma is survived by sons, Harold (Lilith) Dorr, Ames, Iowa, Rob (Kathy) Dorr, Canyon Lake, Texas, and daughter-in-law, Jo Ann Dorr, Belmond, Iowa, six grandchildren, Mark A. (Ruth) Dorr, Scott (Heidi) Dorr, Michelle (Randy) Carris, Shawn (Mike) Krenz, Samantha (Aaron) Goodman, Stephanie Ross. Wilma was blessed with 11 great-grandchildren, Nina and Amara Dorr, Jackson and Sophie Dorr, Emma and Zachary Krenz, Devonny, Brenna, Stella and Wesley Goodman, and Amanda Ross; brother, Bud (Wanda) Glade; two sisters, Dorothy Fraser and Glennoven Parriott, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clair, son, Jerry, and two sisters, Ione Erickson and Marjorie Stover. The family desires memorial contributions be made in Wilma G. Dorr’s name to the St Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond and/or the Alzheimer’s Association.
