Charles Fleming Evans was born August 11, 1889, at Dows, Iowa, the son of Fleming and Emma Butler Evans. He was educated in the Dows school and attended Cedar Rapids Business College, where he studied banking. He was employed at the Dows Bank before taking employment with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad, working there until retiring at the age of 65, as a railroad engineer.

Charles was united in marriage to Grace Myrtle Hess, at Shell Lake, Wisconsin, on June 22, 1909. The young couple then made their home in Eagle Grove, until Mrs. Evans' death in February, 1973. Charles remained in his home until a short time ago, when he went to Webster City to the home of his sister-in-law. He entered the Hamilton County Hospital a few hours prior to his death on Friday evening, July 31, at the age of 91 years, 11 months, and 19 days.

He is survived by his sisters, Mrs. Esther Carlson, Little Rock, Ark.; Mary Ellen Evans, Little Rock, Ark.; four nieces, and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two brothers, James and George "Cal" Evans. Charles was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Engineers. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 4, at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. Rev. Charles Dutton officiated, and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, at Eagle Grove.
