Frances Fern Scott was born to Eugene M. and Frances Easton Scott in State Center, Iowa, May 1, 1878. She was the second of four children born to this union. At the age of three she came to Eagle Grove with her parents, where she grew to womanhood. She attended and graduated from the Eagle Grove public schools with the class of 1894. Following her graduation she taught one year in the country, and the following year began teaching in the Eagle Grove schools, where she taught until 1899. To this union were born two daughters, Miriam, now Mrs. Lester High of Rippey, Iowa, and Phyllis, now Mrs. Howard Hughes of Fort Dodge, Iowa, both of whom survive.

Upon the death of Dr. Wiley she returned with her two daughters to Eagle Grove, where she again began teaching in the local schools. From 1913 to 1930, she taught continuously at Eagle Grove, and a portion of this period she was principal of the west side grade school. Southwell, who, because of his own serious illness at their home in Weslaco, Tex., was unable to be present, her aged mother, Mrs. F. E. Scott of Eagle Grove, one brother, Randolph E. Scott of St. Louis, Mo., one sister. Amy L. Donly of Eagle Grove, and a grandson, Ned High. She was preceded in death by her father and one brother.

Early in life she became a member of the Methodist church of Eagle Grove, and was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Eagle Chapter, and of other organizations during her residence here.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Wilson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Muhleman of Algona in charge, assisted by the Rev. Tumbleson. Music was furnished by Mrs. E. C. Johnson and Mrs. Potgeter, accompanied on the organ by Mrs. DeForest. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.
