Margaret Norma Smith, Boise, passed away on Friday, May 5, 2006 at the age of 92. She was the beloved wife of Howard Smith. Her children are Gary (Hope) Butler of Adelaide, Australia; Jon (Joanne) Butler of Emmett; and Sherm (Jane) Smith of Boise. The eldest of the five "Lehman girls," Margaret was born in a sod house on August 18, 1913 in Galt, Iowa to William and Lillian Lehman. The family later moved to Sioux City where she attended school. Margaret married Gale Butler in 1941; two sons were born to this union. Gale was killed in an explosion during World War II. In 1947, Margaret married Howard (Bus) Smith. Together they raised Gary, Jon, Buss son, Harold, and their son, Sherm. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage. Margaret is survived by her husband; her children Gary, Jon, Sherm and their wives; three sisters, Wilma Holme, Verna Severiede, and Louise Burkett; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her parents; a sister, Lyn Schuh; several brother- and sister-in-laws; and her stepson, Harold Smith, preceded her in death. Margaret enjoyed playing bridge, family get togethers, good food, and traveling. She visited Australia, the Fiji Islands, Hawaii, and Alaska. Above all, Margaret loved people; she was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandma. She will be remembered for her delightful disposition and zest for life. Her death is an immeasurable loss to family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2006 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5009 Cassia Street, followed by interment at Terrace Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church School.
