August 19, 1920 --- January 12, 2015

Genevieve N. Poulos, 94, of Mason City, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 1311 Second St. S.W., with the Rev. Joseph Mirowski officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church. A Trisagion service will be held at 6 p.m. at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Genevieve Poulos Memorial Fund.

Genevieve was born Aug. 19, 1920, in Renwick, Iowa the daughter of John and Grace (Purdy) Palmer. She was raised in Renwick and attended schools there, as well as in Britt. Genevieve married John C. Poulos Oct. 21, 1943, in Gary, Indiana and in January of 1945, they were married in the Greek Orthodox Church in Mason City. Genevieve and John moved to Britt, Iowa, where they owned and operated Poulos Billiards. They moved to Mason City in 1955. Genevieve worked as a cafeteria cook for the Mason City Public Schools for 25 years. She retired in 1985. Genevieve was a member of the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, Daughters of Penelope and Philoptochos Society.

Genevieve is survived by her children, James Poulos of Duluth, Minnesota, Pamela (Frank) Hunssinger of Lake Zurich, Illinois, and Kristie (George) Pattison of Woodstock, New York; grandchildren, Sarah and Andrew Hunssinger, Nicholas Pattison; brother, Keith (Ruth) Palmer of Sac City; several nieces and nephews. Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John; brother, Roy Thomas Palmer, and two sisters, Virginia O'Brien and Joyce Anderson.
