Donald H. Thompson died at the Iowa Veterans Home on December 22, 2014, at the age of 88. Don was born in Belmond, IA on February 2, 1926, to Harley and Bessie Thompson. He graduated from Clear Lake High School and attended The University of Kansas before serving in the Army during World War II. Following the war, Don returned to Iowa State University. A Sigma Nu, Don graduated from Iowa State with a degree in engineering and became a registered professional engineer in Iowa and South Carolina. Throughout his 35+year career, he specialized in civil engineering services across the state of Iowa.

On June 26th, 1955, Don married Sandra (Sanny) Armstrong and they resided in Marshalltown throughout their lives. The couple enjoyed being involved in a wide range of activities in the community, which they viewed as an ideal place to raise a family. Throughout his life, Don was active with the First Congregational Church, YMCA, Elks Club, Boy Scouts of America, Marshalltown Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club and Elmwood Country Club.

Don's survivors include his wife, Sanny; son Greg, of Homestead, IA; daughter Lisa Bentley (Dean), of Mill Valley, CA; and son, Bradley (Amanda), of Centennial, CO; as well as his five grandchildren: Davis and Taylor Bentley and Ander, Margaux and Alec Thompson. He is also survived by sister, Tommie (Mrs. R. D.) Warrington and the extended family of his two siblings. Don is pre-deceased by his parents and brother, Durwood.

A private memorial was held at the First Congregational Church. Memorials may be directed to the First Congregational Church endowment fund, Marshalltown YMCA or Alzheimer's Association. Anderson Funeral Homes was entrusted with the arrangements.
